  • Dr. Bruce L. Hansen, DVM
    Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Dermatology

    Dr. Hansen received his veterinary degree from the University of Missouri (1980). He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and is Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. He has served as Assistant Professor in Veterinary Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania and founded Dermatology and Allergy Service for Animals in 1986. He is also a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology. He served as Dermatology Chairperson for the American Animal Hospital Association EXCEL committee (90-94). Dr. Hansen has authored numerous articles for veterinary journals and has spoken at numerous veterinary meetings all over the United States. Dr. Hansen is happily married with three children. In his spare time he enjoys officiating at swim meets.

  • Dr. Judith M. Johnson, VMD

    Dr. Johnson received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. She has worked at Alexandria Animal Hospital for 14 years (1986-2000) and joined Dermatology and Allergy Service for Animals in 2010. She is a long time member of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Johnson is married and has two sons.  In her spare time Dr. Johnson likes to garden and is an Executive Board Member of the Northern Virginia Swim League.


  • Dr. Alissa Rexo, DVM, CVA
    Resident in Dermatology

    Growing up in New England, Dr. Rexo always knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She graduated cum laude in 2002 from Wheaton College in Massachusetts with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. She went on to pursue her dream, earning her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2006 from Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Since graduating, Dr. Rexo has built extensive clinical experience in both small and large animal practices in Northern Virginia including an equine emergency facility. She has been assisting in dermatology with Dr. Hansen for the past four years and started an official dermatology residency program in 2018. Dr. Rexo also spent time as a chief medical officer for a start-up animal health company focused on enzyme based dental and dermatology products.Dr. Rexo is a certified veterinary acupuncturist through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. In addition to companion animals, she also enjoys working with equines, farm animals, and some exotic mammals. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Academy Veterinary Dermatology and the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Rexo enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons as well as reading, hiking, skiing, and kayaking. She has a horse named Huey and she and her family share their home in Loudoun County with their sweet Maine Coon cat, Apple.
